Rolling Stone is reporting that gun sales are up 50% since Obama was elected.
… and of course the big story toda in Sports & Firearms:
Illegal possession of a firearm in New York City carries a mandatory three-and-half-year jail sentence. If by “illegal” New York means unpermitted and concealed and by “mandatory” New York means mandatory, Burress might soon find himself longing for the Tom Coughlin practices he has so resolutely avoided.
The accompanying poll on the story has 69% of 75,000+ responses saying he won’t serve any jail time.

Not surprising. Today’s mail included a missive from NRA advising that
“Gun ban exremists like BO, HRC, Schumer and Dianne Feinstein stand ready to fight for a far-reaching anti-gun, anti-freedom agenda that will:
- Ban hundreds of commonly owned rifles, pistols and shotguns
- Limit the number of guns you can own
- Force you to register you and your guns w gov’t officials
- Repeal the right to carry a firearm for personal protection
- Close gun shops and shows
- bankrupt America’s firearms makers
So, yeah, it’s no wonder that sales are up 50%

But wait, there’s more!
“The U.S. military expects to have 20,000 uniformed troops inside the United States by 2011 trained to help state and local officials respond to a nuclear terrorist attack or other domestic catastrophe, according to Pentagon officials.”

20,000! That would take care of the west side of Chicago if they insured that ammo wasn’t available! We are one violent country…

Ahh, that’s why they call Massachusetts “progressive” .. we’ve already been at this stage now for awhile. Guess the rest of the country has not yet taken up the not-so-soft Police State 2.0.

Someone in the national planning department must have noted that before they could effectively quell civil unrest, it might be a good idea to round up the fire arms.
That brings up the interesting follow-on question, what civil unrest were they planning upon, and what, pray tell, were those planners thinking of that could get all the common folks riled up in the first place? No house to buy or rent? No bank accounts because there’s no moron bank? No retirement savings? No jobs? No gas? No food in the markets?
Yup, any combination might do the trick.

yah- Nudge, NY has pretty restrictive gun control laws too so I’m guessing it’s a nationwide campaign to rally the gun nuts. I’m all for the second amendment but I can not think of one good reason to have assault rifles available to anyone with a permit.
BTW, JR, I read some of the comments on the Plaxico story- I think I just got more stupider. I often forget what a bunch of freaking numbnuts inhabit this country.

Tipping, omfg, those comments are mind-numbing. I’d say they made me ‘moron stupider’, so, uhh, thanks? :)
No doubt if the control freaks in government clamp down a little too hard, some other folks will take it upon themselves to distribute AK’s by the boxload. 20K troops for crowd control, in a nation where the guns outnumber the people by a fair margin?
Where is Dave when we need him? He has a penchant for finding really long, really useless comment threads on the internets. Yes, all of the internets. God, what was that pimp my car thread he had awhile back with the vampire coke hooker from Uzbekistan posing around her BF’s antique Acura? After a few pages I had to bail with a terminal case of uncontrollable giggles.

Explains why that stupid football player will not talk to the cops about his little accident.

From the Canadian right wing wilderness (tin foil tundra)…
“The Port [of Los Angeles] has purchased with $1.7 million American tax dollars via a “port security grant” awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland security, a mobile X-ray scanning system, mounted on a Mack Truck chassis. The scanning system is owned by Nuctech Company Limited, owned outright by Hu Haifeng, the son of Chinese President Hu Jintao.”
Well, that oughta keep the Chinese made AKs out.
