IMO the Slits served their purpose well. The 70s became horrendous for rock music, it had fallen into the hands of Don Kirschner, and something needed to be done. Punk was the convulsion that saved rock and helped us get through the Reagan years. The Slits were real punk girls, I liked them. But mercifully they weren’t around long. More talented girl groups followed.
This site seems to address two sides of argument on the contribution of the Slits.
