  1. OMG… that must’ve been before Bonnie sobered up!

Thanks, Bif! Brings back lots of memories. Ronstadt was a phenomenon at the time. All my guy friends (including my B-F at the time) had the hots for her. Ah, to be young and stupid again.

  2. What a great clip (and the LR ones too).

Why would anyone that young even begin to think about getting married?$?

Well, you gotta sing about something.

  3. bunn-

That was what the sixties were all about…. love!

She was in love with a Bostonian jug band guy–Jeff Muldaur!! They wound up moving to Woodstock for quite some time.

She’s gotten a new jug band together!

Sometimes, JR, I don’t know when you should be taken seriously. This is certainly one of those times.

While I have waited quietly for you respond to dave’s questions about this Rory fellow, you’re now discretely seeding the clouds with Bacevich (again). That’s cool, but this excerpt… and that godawful title.

    http://us.macmillan.com/BookCustomPage.aspx?isbn=9780805090161#Excerpt

Just cause he was a colonel doesn’t give him a free pass. Look, I feel sorry for him because his son died in Iraq. But I still have to read this stuff with a critical eye. You’ve read this already, probably. If you want to talk about this guy and his take on America, what we should or shouldn’t be doing in the world, etc., I’m err… all ears. Take your time. I still need to steal a copy of the book and then read the rest of it before I can really get into this, so you probably have a few weeks to ponder your options, think about whether this guy is really the conservative he claims to be, etc. A bigger question might be: What the hell is political conservatism anyway and can it realistically be implemented as a means to bringing about and maintaining ordered liberty?

  5. Well I never heard of Bacevich. Having read the excerpt I’d say we’ve heard it all before. I agree with his basic premise about who we are. Might as well pile on though – yeah JR, why would he be a good president?

  6. I would expect that the combination of alcohol and LR look-alikes have been the root of all kinds of trouble, fist fights, etc. Dave, you don’t strike me as the jealous type. But what do I know.

  7. “Dave, you don’t strike me as the jealous type.”

    Bif,

this is very true. i’m never jealous. however, as ayoung man, i was known to be short tempered. my punching of said idiots did not involve jealousy per se. rather, it was provoked by annoyance at some douches, male or female, who would have the audacity to interupt my preanal ritual. the ritual primaryly involved the the ingestion of chilicorn dogs and tanqueray while sitting in the parking lot of the local drive-in. somehow, this combination put both her mind and sphincter at ease (we’ll leave out the more private parts of the preanal ritual since they have nothing to do with your comment.). anyhoo, so, you can imagine my consternation, particularly as a young man, when complete strangers and other assorted idiots would come up to us with joints and offers to “party” and such. it was too much. i would explode. i’m sure you understand. but jealousy is just not in my vocabulary. i hope that clears some confusion.

  8. yeah, “van the man” should start billing himself as “the singing woodchuck”, or something like that.

  9. “…complete strangers and other assorted idiots would come up to us with joints and offers to “party” and such. it was too much. i would explode.”

Your defensive behavior is completely normal for a silverback, especially because it involves favorite foods and the company of females. Not only that, interupting a mating ritual is really bad. Those other apes, unless they are feeling quite strong, should move around that space, not into it.

  10. yes bif, this is exactly the context that that i’ve been looking for all these years. it’s as if her mere resemblance to celebrity gave license where there was none. biosocial norms required forcefull reinforcement, particularly within that mileau.

of course, if something like that happened today, i’d try to parlay her looks into a 3some, ffm, or something like that. live and learn, that’s what i always say.

…or the next generation of less pretentious musicians…

I always take JR seriously. It’s just his wild-hair ideas that I ignore.
