  1. Haven’t seen the movie, but read the book. I was not impressed. But he was most certainly a product of our society.

  2. people like simple stories…goodbad, cowardhero, commonroyal, illuminatti, etc….if you don’t give them a story that they like, they’ll make one up for themselves…buncha bullshit…mostly cause most people are just a buncha fucking idiots…

  3. I respect the skill required to make long distance shots – I shoot out to 1KM when I get a chance to get to the few ranges that offer that and can shoot out to 500 yds at my local range, so I can relate to that aspect.

But the persona – good grief.

Compare and contrast Kyle with Carlos Hathcock. Hathcock was a hunter of men. Armed men. And he was a skilled sharpshooter.

“There is no hunting like the hunting of man, and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it, never care for anything else thereafter.” Hemingway.

  4. i like to know the difference between a human with a HP rifle hiding at long distance picking off “targets” and some gammer-turned-military pro flying an armed drone up in the sky picking off “targets”. seems to me the whole WH-led intel-military has turned into american psycho cowards. but it’s cool cause it’s high tech?

  5. recall the movie The Missouri Breaks? how did you and the rest of the audience feel when jack nicholson’s character finally catches up to marlon brando’s character, the long-distance bounty hunter? i felt it was payback: “wake up, time to die!” (throat cut). brando played a real creep, but what he was doing was legal, killing “bad guys” a lot like they were varmits with a reward. who were the “good guys”? or were they the real “bad guys”?

it’s the same bad guys in charge now.

  6. They guy in the Nevada desert flying the drone still isn’t in any danger. Drone-boy has a much greater capacity and risk of killing innocents, whereas sniper-boy (and his spotter) can be shot back at and are generally limited to one shot, one kill.

Not all sniping is against personnel, although in the sand box that appears to be the norm. The current enemy doesn’t have mechanized equipment, SAM sites or truck convoys to disable with a .50 through the engine block so drone-boy can have sitting ducks.

Should our fearless leaders in Vichy DC decide we can win going toe-to-toe with the Ruskies on the ground, you’ll have more material shots and leadership hits.

    BWTFDIK? I was Air Force.

  7. Doom, the short answer tho I think is contract churn for the MIC. Those MIC boys luv sucking the government teat.

  8. The Will

Doug Smith is on his deathbed and knows the end is near.

His nurse, his wife, his daughter and 2 sons, are with him.

He asks for 2 witnesses to be present and a camcorder be in place to record his last wishes, and when all is ready he begins to speak:

    · My son, “Bernie, I want you to take the Mayfair houses.”

    · My daughter “Sybil, you take the apartments over in the east end.”

    · My son, “Jamie, I want you to take the offices over in the City Centre.”

    · “Sarah, my dear wife, please take all the residential buildings on the banks of the river.”

The nurse and witnesses are blown away as they did not realize his extensive holdings, and as Doug slips away, the nurse says, “Mrs. Smith, your husband must have been such a hard-working man to have accumulated all this property”.

Sarah replies, “Property ? …. the asshole had a paper route!”

  9. A cursory glance has me questioning the woman aspect, as in, born that way; never mind the mammalian protuberances.

  10. agee with gb, they’re real. not that big, either. evidence is her big snoze. if she was into perfection by artificial means ala joan rivers et al., the nose would be smaller and better shaped for her face.

god gave her that bod, and she’s taking care of it naturally.

  11. the trainweck is a metaphor for civilizational collapse, i guess. i especially liked the part where they began to burn everything to maintain their speed, and when the elites in first class cut loose the lower class cars, toward the end.

  12. solutions? to energy, warming, water, over pop…no such thing. might as well stick to bullets…i guess.

  13. actually, lowering the human population will go a long ways toward solving all of our problems, including waiting in line at the bank and getting a parking stall. looks like the momentum of climate change will be unstoppable in any reasonable amount of time for the present human civilization, though. NTE.

  15. some asshole once got old pablo’s autograph on a piece of paper and later sold it for something like $10,000. or so the story goes.

  16. Well now, I don’t know if you’re a Patriots fan or a SeaHawks fan, of just don’t care, BUT…

That SeaHawks call on first and goal on the one yard line late in the forth quarter (over 1 minute left) when the score was only 28-24 Patriots and a touchdown would probably win it. Obviously, unless you have NO CONFIDENCE in your running game, to elect to pass with downs left, and then get intercepted, well, that has to be the STUPIDEST CALL in NFL history.

It was disgusting to watch, and I hope that if there is some justice in this world, that the SeaHawks coach or player that made that lame call gets his ass handed to him on the way out the door to permanent retirement from the game.

I’m just sayin. Looked like a bad high school football call.

Now I have indigestion from all those damn Doritos and bean dip.

  17. they are correct about the potential magnitude of the event, should it happen. let’s all hope that any predictions of it happening soon are wrong.

i also think that you and i are relatively safe from the event, but the aftermath could be tough to live through. remus and family are toast. (sorry, remus. still time to move?)

  18. good gawd, mabe it was a conspiracy! i’ve heard that the offensive coach of the SeaHawks that likely made that call was leaving for a new post elsewhere. so, maybe he took some vengence upon his soon-to-be former team by making a stupid, high-risk call at a critical time, or maybe some money was slipped under the table, dunno. it will all be denied, of course.

  19. nice summary of the current oil price situation:

“People either don’t get it or don’t want to get it: instead of a glut there is a shortage. Instead of a return to the ‘good old days’, the wheels are coming off. It isn’t just the oil markets: retail sales and revenue are being hammered. So are leading indicator commodities such as lumber, copper and iron ore. The Baltic Dry Index has fallen to its 2008 level; home ownership is at a multi-decade low. There are alarms going off in China and Japan, also Latin America including oil producer Venezuela; also Russia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Libya, Ukraine … The world’s customers are broke; it only looks like a glut in the oil patch because drillers are stuck with unsold inventory and the media is willing to lie about it.”

he also goes on about the eurozone banks and greece, etc. overall, the piece is rather silly, though.

  21. Doom, I was up that way on a west coast road trip and saw Mt. St. Helens not long after it blew out. Eerie.

  22. Yeah, me too. I was in north central MT for a tree-planting job when it blew. At the truckstop, I stepped outside and saw a huge plume to the west and found out about the eruption. A little scary. The falling ash was amazing.

  23. no moron yogi and booboo bear, no moron tourists, hikers, campers, jellystone park rangers, bison, moose, deer, wolves, coyotes, crows, eagles, trees, fish, ducks, geese, frogs, snakes, etc. survivors in the outer areas in the northern hemisphere get to figure how to grow crops-not without sunlight in freezing cold temperatures for a few years afterward.

maybe OK with yarra down in Oz.

There is no solution with 7 Billion people. Maybe 1 Billion at a push in a much simpler far more streamlined non globalised world. How we actually address the population issue is another matter entirely. Calculations based on CIA data for births and deaths in the US, if every woman in the US stopped having kids for the next 10 years it would barely make a dent in the population. More sobering though. We don’t have 10 years! I suspect there is no plan so we are heading for mass die off and a system reset back to the stone age. I don’t say stone age lightly. Our technology has evolved so far forward with electricity we have forgotten everything non electrical. The most important person to civilisation 200 years ago no longer exists. The Blacksmith. Easy to evolve up the totem pole. It’s a different matter sliding down the pole.

  26. At the gas station (joke)

There was this gas station in “redneck country” trying to increase its sales, so the owner put up a sign saying, “Free Sex with Fill-up.” Soon, a customer pulled in, filled his tank, and then asked for his free sex.

The owner told him to pick a number from 1 to 10, and if he guessed correctly, he would get his free sex.

The buyer then guessed 8 and the proprietor said, “No, but you were close. The number was 7. Sorry, no free sex this time, but maybe next time.”

Some time thereafter, the same man, along with his buddy this time, pulled in again for a fill-up, and again he asked for his free sex. The proprietor again gave him the same story, and asked him to guess the correct number.

The man guessed 2 this time and the proprietor said, “Sorry, it was 3. You were close, but no free sex this time.”

As they were driving away, the driver said to his buddy, “I think that game is rigged, and he doesn’t really give away free sex.”

The buddy replied, “No, it’s not rigged…my wife won twice last week.”

  28. worth watching, i guess, particularly the last 15 or 20 minutes. the bbc keeps pulling this off of youtube, cocksuckers…

The financial system has to grow. It has to have oil companies that are making profits, so that they can pay back their debt with interest. It has to have Chinese homeowners making enough money that they can pay for their expensive condominiums. I am afraid that we are already quite a bit below the level at which the financial system can keep operating. It is only by trickery that we can kid ourselves that things are sort of all right.

  31. Peak (Almost) Everything

“So we are already in trouble, and it will get worse even before climate change gets bad. There are still some quick fixes available, notably by cutting down on waste: more than a third of the food that is grown for human consumption never gets eaten. But unless we come up with some new “magic bullets”, things will be getting fairly grim on the food front by the 2030s.”

  32. see, i say (and biff, i guess)2024, gwen says 2030…it’s fucking converging…man. dimitry says 2030, gail and doom say 2017…it’s all converging…

  33. of course, if i make it to 2030 i’ll be an old fart ready to die anyway. it’s our kids/grandkids that are going to get seriously fucked.

of course, if gail and i are right, we only have to wait a couple of moron years to watch the big show. i hope i get a ringside seat on some island in the south pacific. must be a high island, too, no atolls.

i really have a hard time seeing this magic show running all the way until 2024, but i hope you and bif are right.

  34. “it’s our kids/grandkids that are going to get seriously fucked.”

serves ’em right for being born…

  35. yeah, i guess this thread is getting clogged up with youtube bullshit. not that i have anything to do with that…

  36. how about undertakers and sanitation workers? they should also outlaw cremations. all human carbon to be sequestered in the ground. the ignorant portion of buddhists will be pissed about that.

  37. oldie-but-goodie talk on societal collapse with Q&A by Joeseph Tainter. About 90 minutes long and worth every minute of your time.

  38. Bitcoin miners. I do not own bitcoin nor do I mine it. Mining it, in my view, has moved beyond the desktop. I find the raw, bare-bones aspect of their operation interesting and reminiscent.

  39. pour moi, watching john “haircut” kerry’s actions as secretary of state is a grim reminder that the same cabal that backed the bush-cheney enterprise is still pulling the strings on these puppets. to think that i once gave my last campaign contribution to that stupid marrionette. nevermore.

  40. more stupid shit…people, all people, lie for all kinds of reasons. of course, so what? are there russian troops in the ukrain? could be…i don’t know, i’m not fucking there. how could i possibly know. is somebody lying about it one way or another? sure, i guess. does that constitute some type of parallel universe? no, it’s just people lying to protect their perceived self interest in some way. that’s what people do.

what does quantum physics have have to do with events (particles and events are two way different things) in the real world…pretty much nothing.

i’m not going to go over 9/11 again. but, have people lied to cover their own asses in one way or another? no doubt. is there a shred of evidence to support some phantasmagorical stories of thousands of planted charges? no one ever said that kerosene fire “melts” steel. but can it weaken steel? can that lead to a cascading failure? i’ll let you and orlov try to figure it out.

why do i have to live in world populated by a bunch of fucking retards? that’s the question i want answered. that’s my parallel universe.

  41. “why do i have to live in world populated by a bunch of fucking retards?”

    rhetorical or not, that’s rich.

  42. i’ll bet if you lost one of those in a dangerous mission, say a bomb removal, that’d you cry about it as if you’d lost your best friend. also, $$$$. sure are ugly, though.

  43. why do we need these robots, when gawd provides so many human and other animal “heros”? it’s not like we’re running out of supplies. not yet.

  44. Doom, I think it is less about the mechanics of the machine but more about the logic and sensory streams required to allow that machine move fluidly and in groups of different sized machines or animals. Moore’s Law has been very very good to robotics in this regard. A certain level of autonomy is almost a requirement for these devices.

These proposals are very “pie in the sky.” Part of what Hofmeister was after was higher natural gas prices. If he could figure out a way to get people to use natural gas as a transportation fuel, that would pump up demand, and hence prices, and allow more nature gas to be extracted from the ground.

The big issue I see is that we have big problems right now–can’t keep the oil price up high enough–and these problems don’t look like they will go away soon (or at all, I am afraid). It would be a very long slow process to add all of the infrastructure needed for such a natural gas arc, including a lot of pipeline, storage for winter, refueling stations and transformed vehicles. Trucks would lose shipping capacity; cars would lose trunk space. I also don’t know who would pay for all of these front-end costs. There would be after the fact costs as well, because trucks and cars couldn’t go as far between refueling, so there would be lost work time when this is done.

  46. Dave,
Couldn’t help but think of Forrest Gump walking in on those clowns and saying
“I’m very sorry I ruined your black panther party”

  47. i had relatives on my father’s side that still called that The War. WWI and WWII, Korea, Vietnam, those were just foreign wars. it makes moron impact if you’re on the losing side, i guess.

  48. BTW, I don’t have a problem with you posting pictures of your church group Dave, but please tell people not to pick their nose in a photo, it’s a little disconcerting.

  49. started chatting with a guy selling heater jackets down in Texas. he identified himself as a descendant of carpetbaggers. end of conversation. no sale.

  50. “so, when will the dollar collapse? and what will be the result?”

perhaps as soon as the end of this year, or next, per gail. i guess one impact will be restrictions on imports, like oil. less oil, less food => dire straights for many ‘muricans.

  51. Apparently Mr. Orlov has a laptop populated entirely with tunnel diodes.

  53. weight lifting/fitness training joke:

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side.

With a 5-lb potato bag in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then relax.

Each day you’ll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.

After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato bags . Then try 50-lb potato bags and eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb potato bag in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute. (I’m at this level).

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag.

What I am trying to describe is a financial system that is about to fail, because of mismatch between the underlying situation we face and the nature of the promises that have been made. I probably need some more diagrams. In particular, I need to show resources available as in this chart:

If the amount of actual goods and services falls precipitously, then the nature of the system–borrowing from the future, and paying back at least as much as we borrowed, simply doesn’t work, because we are moving from a time period with a positive slope to one with a steeply negative slope.

The problem is really a cheap energy problem–there is not enough cheap energy to fill all of the promises that have been made, and in fact, to keep the whole system going. We can write down how much energy each of the past debts is worth, and re-issue a new currency that is worth less. That sort of works, if we are to the left of the time period when the energy cliff takes place. In fact, that is why it worked in the past.

If we do it now, the new currency will still have problems, because of the continued steep downslope. In fact, it will need to be replaced almost yearly or the system done away with altogether. That is why today’s situation is different, and why I didn’t suggest the solution you proposed.

Obviously, I am not describing the situation sufficiently well, because other commenters are also confused. They keep talking about inherent deficiencies of the fractional reserve banking system, which I am not talking about. The fractional reserve banking system has “hung around” for quite awhile, despite changes in currencies.
